Enjoy Holiday Cheer At Twilight Tour
December 6, 2008     4:00-8:00pm

On Dec. 6th, the downtown streets of Brevard will be transformed into a magical world of holiday cheer during the Heart of Brevard's 21st Annual Twilight Tour.

The sidewalks will glow in the light of 1000 luminaries, and school children and community choir musicians will gather at the courthouse gazebo to fill the evening air with holiday song. You'll be able to roast your own marshmallows for making s' mores at D.D. Bullwinkel's or decorate your own sugar cookie, generously provided by our local Bi-Lo.

Llamas!

Mark and Bonita English have been so very generous to provide Davidson River School, Transylvania County’s center for alternative education, with six of their prize winning pedigreed Llamas for their booth at this years Twilight Tour. The Englishes, along with their son Eric, are in the process of training the Llamas to be golf caddies. They are all equipped with custom made packs for carrying golf clubs. When the Llamas are not training on the golf course, they are often packing out a camping trip. When resting, they can be found grazing the countryside at the old Whitmire Dairy Farm on Island Ford Road. Mark and Bonita have a total of 12 Llamas in the pack and they are so exited about what the future hold with their mystical friends!

Come and visit them at First Citizens Bank, which was established over 100 years ago and today remains one of the largest family-controlled banks in the U.S. due its clear vision for helping customers achieve a lifetime of success.

Don't forget to enjoy the courthouse lights and Christmas tree decorations at the Transylvania County Courthouse. This is White Squirrel Shoppe's 10th year donating all of the decorations to make this special treat possible!

There will also be ornament making provided by Mountain Sun Community School and signature face painting at Harris ACE Hardware. Of course, you can't miss the long-awaited visit with Santa Claus at More than Christmas on Main. Come enjoy the pay-to-play inflatables and bungee trampoline provided by STJ Parties and Events. They will also be selling hot chocolate and hot cider, as well.

For adults, the Merchant Open House offers a unique and wonderful holiday shopping opportunity. The retail stores will offer special discounts, refreshments and entertainment. And the Mistletoe Market is the perfect place to find a Transylvania Christmas tree, wreath or garland. Come support the local farmers!

The Brevard High School Band has been selected to represent the state of North Carolina at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. In April, they will be performing at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts' 50th Anniversary and President Abraham Lincoln's 200th Birthday. In order to make this trip they have to raise funds. So come support our students, Brevard High School Band Association will be offering free gift wrapping and also selling barbeque sandwiches donated by ED Boudreaux's Bayou Bar-B-Que.

Carriage ride through downtown

As a gift to the public, once again, United Community Bank is providing free horse-drawn carriage rides. The main station for the carriages is at Eldridge Motors - Marathon gas station at the corner of South Broad and Jordan Street.

5:00 - 5:30pm      Brevard Elementary School Chorus

Under the direction of music teacher Sarah Moser, the chorus rehearses once a week, after regular school hours, and was invited in 2006 to sing at the North Carolina Music Educators' State Conference. For the last nine years, BES chorus members have been selected by audition for the North Carolina Elementary All-State Honors Chorus. This month, you can also hear them sing for the Brevard Rotary Club, the Brian Center, and at their annual school holiday assembly.

5:30 - 6:00pm      Brevard High School Concert Chorus

Brevard High School Concert Chorus and Chorale are combining their talents this evening to bring you some of your favorite holiday music and Christmas carols.  These students will also be presenting the Ye Olde Madrigal Dinners on December 11 and 12 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 6:45 PM.  Tickets are on sale at the BHS Box Office Monday-Friday at 8:00-3:00.  The BHS Band/Chorus Holiday Spectacular! Concert will be performed on December 16 at the Brevard College Porter Center at 7:00 PM.  Come out for a delightful evening of music and holiday cheer.

6:00 - 6:30pm      Brevard Middle School Mixed Ensemble

Brevard Middle School's choir program has grown quite a bit since last year's Twilight Tour. Last year there were 11 of them, this year the stage will hold 31 singers, plus Mrs. Germanaro, the school's music teacher and choir director. All 31 singers are made up of 7th and 8th grade girls, and they will delight your ears with many beautiful and fun songs for the season: The Holiday Season, Silver Bells, Believe, A Cold In My Nose, and Rockin' On the Housetop, closing with Lullaby on Silent Night. BMS choirs and band will present their Christmas concert at BHS on December 11 at 7:00 P.M. The Choirs will also be singing at College Walk, Oaks Of Sweeten Creek, and Pisgah Forest Elementary on December 17th, and then closing the concert season on December 18th with a school sing-a-long at BMS.
This year BMS finally has a school song, written by Sally Germanaro, and recorded at Echo Mountain Recording Studio with Nashville musicians. The CD will be on sale in December for $5.00. The song is called "Brevard MS Rocks" and is a combination of bluegrass, country, a flavor of rap and a little rock. It's a great song and speaks of Brevard being a "small town and a friendly little town." Happy Holidays from BMS choirs!
