Another sighting from Goose Creek SC (approximately 18 miles NW of Charleston).
Note the head patch and dorsal stripe on this one which seems to be lacking in the one photographed by Donna Ellington
a couple hundred yards away. Moncks Corner SC, a few miles from Goose Creek, has an large population with similar markings
and an isolated sighting of a squirrel with the same pattern has been seen in Johns Island 12 miles west of Charleston.
It would seem that this variant is well established in the SC lowland .
Could it be that this is the northern most extent of their native range once thought to be limited to central and northern Florida?
